SOCIAL WORKERS DAY 2009

The Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers (ANZASW) invites you to join with us in celebrating Social Workers Day - 23 September 2009. 

Since ANZASW initiated this special day on the fourth Wednesday of September six years ago, it has become a more and more popular occasion to celebrate the great social work done everyday by the Social Workers of Aotearoa New Zealand. As this year's theme we have chosen "Many Voices, Many Communities, Social Justice for All" to match the theme for the first Asia Pacific Social Work conference to be hosted in New Zealand since 1995 and due to take place in Auckland from 11 to 13 November 2009.

Please let us know what you have planned for Social Workers Day 2009 by sending an email to communication@anzasw.org.nz Every year we hear of a growing range of activity that different groups of Social Workers undertake, supported by employers. This might be a special breakfast or lunch, a round of special "thank yous" to the Social Workers on staff, a noticeboard display of messages about the difference made by effective social work, or an occasion such as a speaker's event. If you've run out of ideas we can help!

The celebration of Social Workers Day 2008 included the 'relaunch' of a revitalised NoticeBoard - our members' newsletter. Over the last 12 months we have been promoting and highlighting the many different aspects of Social Work on the back page of each issue and through our 'cover stories'. These one page 'flyers' are useful for noticeboard displays and for discussion starters.

>  "The story behind the poster": The central photo on this year's poster shows ANZASW Members who gathered in Wellington for this year's National Congress in April. People travelled from many communities, shared their many voices and unanimously supported a theme of 'Social justice for all''as a priority theme for 2009. The poster was designed for ANZASW by Klaus Kremer, a Senior Tutor at Natcoll Design Technology in Wellington (www.natcoll.ac.nz)
