Notice Board, June 2008

Tena Koutou te whanau whanui - ka nui te mihi kia koutou katoa.

No doubt everybody is gearing up for Te Ahi Kaa on the 14th of July. Te Ahi Kaa (which means to keep the home fires burning)provides us as roopu with a platform to not only celebrate socialwork in our own unique ways as Tangata Whenua takawaenga but also an opportunity to get together to whakawhanaunatangawith one another in a meaningful way.

Tamaki Makaurau and Taitokerau have planned to celebrate Te Ahi Kaa together with a get together over the weekend of the 12th and 13th of July at Waiwera Hot Springs. They have put out a wero/challenge to other roopu to do something similar. As a result of this wero Tairawhiti roopu have planned to have a two day noho marae on the same weekend where we will have a number of guest speakers and workshops but mostimportantly this weekend will give the roopu the added bonus to whakawhanaunatanga. So come on all you other roopu around the country we look forward to hearing what you all have planned for this very special time or join up with one of the above roopu for the weekend.

Kia mura tonu nga Ahi Kaa
more te matemateone
Keep the home fires burning so
loved ones will always return.

Nominations to ANZASW Committees
We have had a very good response from Tangata Whenua members for the committees and in particular from the Tamaki and Taitokerau areas, so a big mihi to these roopu and others for being pro-active and getting their names in to the Board. If any of you are still interested in being a part of one of the committees, it is not too late to do this so we would strongly encourage you to consider being a part of one of these committees and to having a voice by doing so.The process involves you getting a letter of support from your roopu, a copy of your cv, and a covering letter to National Office. For further info please contact Bella Wikaira.

Tangata Whenua o Takawaenga o Aotearoa 2009
Please note that the next national hui for Tangata Whenua Takawaenga is planned to be hosted by Te Roopu o Te Tairawhiti in 2009. The date will be confirmed later in the year and the hosting roopu will continue to keep everybody informed as plans are progressed. This promises to be a very exciting event and Te Roopu o Te Tairawhiti are certainly hoping for a good turn out
to this very special occasion.

Notice Board, May 2008

Tena koutou te whanau whanui o te Motu he mihi aroha ki a koutou katoa mo tenei ra.

This report is coming to you in the new format, under the new Governance Board, following the first National Congress in April. It was during the National Congress that Tangata Whenua, through caucus, addressed issues and ways forward for Tangata Whenua Governance Board members to better represent our membership. This was timely as Tangata Whenua Governance Board members have stated in previous reports we are ‘mindful of Tangata Whenua Takawaenga o Aotearoa and it is our intention to maintain the aspirations and integrity of this collective, whom we represent.’
In line with this, regular updates will occur through this monthly publication. Items and updates for the wider membership’s information.

1. Lines of Communication
Tangata Whenua Governance Board members were supported by caucus to establish processes of communication to roopu and Tangata Whenua members throughout the motu.

2. Kupu Maori
Use of kupu Maori on ANZASW publications will be monitored to ensure appropriate use. The removal of ‘Kaiwhakahaere’ from these reports is replaced with the term ‘Kaipurongo’ (Recorder/Reporter).

3. Choice of Competency process
Further discussion needs to continue regarding ways to promote both choices to Tangata Whenua provisional members forcompetency assessment.

4. Representation on Committee
Nominations of Tangata Whenua on committee to come through Roopu (or Branch where no Roopu are established). All caucus members are encouraged to panui this out to the ider membership, including the process for nomination. Tangata Whenua Takawaenga are mindful that tangata whenua representation on committee must come from and be endorsed by the caucus. This aligns to the bi-cultural commitment ofANZASW.
5. Indigenous Conference 2010
Tangata Whenua will receive regular updates regarding this event. Watch this space.6. Tangata Whenua Takawaenga o Aotearoa National Hui 2009 Tairäwhiti registered their interest to host this event. Kia ora ki a koe Tairäwhiti. However Tangata Whenua Takawaenga caucus are also aware that the tono is subject to further discussion within Tairäwhiti.
7. Tautoko to Roopu development
An issue raised in caucus about areas that either don’t have a Roopu, or the Roopu is in recess, for members in this situation please let us know who you are and we will endeavour to link you into the caucus.
We are excited by the enthusiasm and momentum that is occurring out there and want to remind you all that the Tangata Whenua Governance Board members are here to respond to any queries or feedback. Take care.

Mauriora!
